Family Practice Develops New Healthcare Model

SCOTLANDPa. – With the massive changes in the insurance industry, medical practices have found themselves losing patients and spending less one on one time to develop a strong relationship.

Often, patients feel like just a number being rushed through appointments and that is because of complex insurance regulations.

However, Scotland Family Medicine will be changing that through their new care model known as Direct Primary Care.

Patients can pay a monthly membership fee that will cover all outpatient care practices. Adults will pay $65 and children will pay $10.

Since it is mandatory to have insurance through Obamacare, the monthly membership fee will not be another fee that will be paid but rather, a purchase towards having discount services.

“What we feel is that we can take care of the outpatient needs for patients which is the healthcare role; that’s the majority of the healthcare. They don’t have to use their insurance for that but they’re going to need the insurance for the catastrophic claims as unexpected surgeries or hospitalizations,” said Dr. Ken Rictor, physician and owner of Scotland Family Medicine.

The office does offer certain procedures at a discounted rate such as labs and scannings. Conventional surgeries would go through your traditional insurance.

“Family practice offices, primary care offices are beginning to adopt this as a model for their practices. There’s been a tremendous amount of growth recently,” said  Dr.  Ken Rictor.

This new model will allow fewer patients per day in order to give more time to each individual patient. There will be no co-pays, and it is simply a direct contract with patients with no insurance middleman.

The new care model will launch on March 1, 2014. For more information on how to enroll, click here.
